Continued Fundraising for The Margaret Kerr Unit
If you wish to fundraise for, or donate to, The Margaret Kerr Unit you still can!
All donations made to the Unit will pay for additional equipment, enhancements to the environment and patient comforts. We are talking to patients and their families who are being cared for in the Unit about what else they would like to see - and we will do our very best to make provision for all the requirements that are brought to our attention.

Margaret Kerr Unit Appeal achieves the £1 million target
The public fundraising appeal to raise the ‘final million’ pounds required to build The Margaret Kerr Unit has exceeded its target, less than 16 months after it launched.
Appeal Chairman, James Marjoribanks has been overwhelmed by the response from the public. “We have received over 1000 individual donations since September 1st 2011, culminating in a total to date of £1,012,000 and it is still growing! The variety of events and activities that have taken place range from coffee mornings, to marathons, to open gardens – the list is endless. On behalf of the fundraising team of myself, Catherine Duthie and Clare Oliver I would like to sincerely thank once again everyone who has contributed to the creation of this very special place. I would especially like to take this opportunity to thank those that have made in memoriam donations for loved ones who could not benefit from the purpose built facilities, but want others to be able to experience the difference that a specialist palliative care unit will make to the lives of patients and their families with a life limiting condition”.
Adding his congratulations, Chair of NHS Borders John Raine explains:
“The project to build the Margaret Kerr Unit started in 2010 when details of Miss Margaret Kerr’s legacy emerged. Since then a dedicated project team have worked swiftly to ensure that her wish to provide a specialist in-patient palliative care unit for the people of the Borders has been delivered ahead of schedule and on budget. This facility will greatly improve the experience of patients and their families at a very difficult time in their lives and I am very proud that, thanks to the generosity of numerous charitable trusts, organisations, national and local charities and of course the general public, we will be able to welcome patients to The Margaret Kerr Unit during the first week of 2013”.
