Funds to support educational opportunities
This Small Grants programme is available to wards, services and departments which have a charity (‘endowment’) fund. The charity currently holds over 200 of these specific funds and they are managed locally by a Fund Manager.
This programme is aimed to support easy to implement changes that have an immediate impact on improving patient care.

To provide quick access to funding for ideas that:
Improve the knowledge and understanding of effective treatment and practice;
Develop NHS Borders’ ability to deliver outstanding care and improve health outcomes; and
Support better health and wellbeing of patients and/or the community.

Attendance at training events
Attendance at academic meetings and conferences
Organising training/education events
Lecturer fees
Books and resources
Certain publications

Training and development which is focused on improving knowledge and understanding of effective treatment and practice for patients and the community of NHS Borders
Opportunities which focus on a patient group; therefore, should be open to any staff working with this group across NHS Borders regardless of ward/department/service.
All courses should be relevant to the attendee’s job role.
Proposals for individual qualifications (including modules) must justify why this is in the best interest of the patients and community of NHS Borders and are subject to staff personal contribution.
All attendees must have 100% statutory and mandatory compliance and complete a Study Leave Form
Be delivered within 6 months (up to £1,000) or 12 months (up to £10,000) of the grant being awarded.
Be straight-forward and simple to deliver.
Be a standalone initiative and not part of a larger project.

Staff salaries or backfill costs.
Training which is the responsibility of NHS Borders as a requirement of health and safety, employment law or ministerial policy direction.
